Goodbye to the last great movie theater in Utah
I was saddened recently to hear that the Villa Theater will be closing. Gone are all the great large theaters that many of us grew up with. I have seen some good movies over the years at the Villa and have fond memories of the large spacious auditorium. I grew up in Provo and have many more fond memories of the Fox Theater that was once there just North and a little East of UVRMC. I think there is now a McDonalds where it used to be. My wife and I would often go to the Cinedome in Ogden to catch a flick, but it also has been closed for a few years. Fortunately there are a couple places in town that have decent size auditoriums and screens. Jordan Commons, Century 16 and The Gateway all have some decent sized theaters. I have always preferred to see movies in the theater, I have not seen a home theater that comes even close so far.

Good Budget News, Finally
For almost two years now all we have been hearing about the State budget has been bad news and scrambles to cut budgets to the bone. Finally there is some good news. As I understand UEN will still be faced with a 2% budget cut which amounts to ~$290,000, but hopefully that is the extent of it. I hope that UEN leaders are requesting that $3M of the ~$40M surplus this year be applied to fund our e-rate activities next year, wouldn't that be a kick!?!
