Will the Newton return? Stay tuned!
Former PalmSource exec joins Apple [InfoWorld: Top News]

You can already sync your iPod to Address Book, and iCal. Is there more in store for the iPod? Will we see a new Apple PDA powered by PALM or IPod OS? Will the Newton be reborn now that Steve Sakoman is back at Apple? This will be interesting to watch!

Cool Mac OS X software must haves
Recently I have downloaded and have been using two very useful tools for MAC OS X. Mac Sniffer and Mac Stumbler.

Mac Sniffer is a GUI front end for the tcpdump packet sniffer built into Mac OS X. It is quite useful and I find it much more convenient to use than the command line interface. You can build filters and the like and also decode in HEX and ASCII. Quite useful for detecting who is trying to break into your network.

Mac Stumbler is a OS X implementation of the popular NetStumbler product used to detect and map wireless networks. It detects if WEP is enabled, noise, signal level just like NetStumbler but also will announce in a talking voice and with sounds when it detects a new network. It also detects hidden networks as well. On a drive home Monday evening I detected over 50 wireless LANs about 90% which were not WEP enabled.

One of the reasons I like Apple products
So yesterday I wrote about the SendMail problem, and today when my mac did it's weekly Software Update it alerted me to the recent security update that was posted Monday (before the anouncement of the security hole). I realize that Windows has this capability now also, but Apple has been doing this since OS 9 shipped a few years ago. No need to go sifting through web sites and discusion groups. Just leave your alone and tell it to check daily/weekly/monthly for updates and all is well.

Click Here to read about the update.
