The Internet as a knowledge leveler
On Monday the Deseret News had an interesting article entitled Software Can Cast a Spell

I had a thought while I was reading this. Not only is IT a knowledge and skill leveler, the internet is one as well.

Let me tell a story to demonstrate this concept. I have a good friend Richard Ledford who has spent almost his entire life working in record and cd stores. We were friends way back when I lived in Provo. He was also the best man at my wedding. Anyhow I have always had a hard time keeping up with him when it came to things regarding music. Until the internet and the web came along.

We share a common musical fan passion, that being Alan Parsons and The Alan Parsons Project. I have seen them twice in concert and gone back stage to meet Alan and the band both times. You can see the pictures here. Richard emailed me last week to say that the new Alan Parsons CD was to be released on the 8th (that was yesterday). However the CD in question was a jazz CD called flip! by the Sons of Sound and the A. Parsons in question was Andy not Alan. I found this out with a quick google search. Richard had seen this in ICE Magazine a weekly dedicated to new CD releases and there was not much info there on the CD.

So with the internet you can take a complete idiot like me that knows nothing about a subject, facts, figures and the like and turn him into a semi-expert.

The other day I was interested in the long conflict in the holy land between Israel and Palestine and I was able to find several web sites with historical information and also opinions from both sides. In a matter of a few min. I was able to begin to understand a subject that has been very fuzzy to me since I have not studied much international history.

Coincidences
A couple weeks ago there was a very interesting article in the Deseret News about coincidences. What I really found interesting is a site dedicated to searching the digits of Pi for certain patterns and also displaying data within Pi. You can use the form below to search for your own birtdate, phone number etc. The site is facinating to read and you Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fans will appreciate the results if you type in 424242 or 42424242.

New search for string:

See digits starting at position
