Radio problems resolved
I haven't been blogging latley becasue I was having problems with Radio. I found out that if you have multiple interfaces in your mac, Radio will use the highest numbered ENx interface as the offical remote access port. So if you connect to it with anything other than localhost or the highest interface you can't post. I disabled my secondary interface after reloading a fresh copy of Radio and noticing that it was still reading my old address (from my add on interface).
Needless to say one of my December break activities (along with the server upgrade) will be to start using Movoable Type instead of Radio. My copy expires early next year and I plan on dumping it.
Everything seems fine now, as you can see :)

Panther mini-review
In short, IT ROCKS!. Much, much faster. Web browsing is now faster than on the PC (rather than being slower and clunky). The new Safari is the fastest browser I have seen yet. It's like I got a new Powerbook!. The new Mail client rocks and supports Exchange. The new Mail client has already increased my productivity due to new addressing features.
Expose is worth every penny of the upgrade price. One of the common complaints about OS X is that it does not have a tray that works like windoze and it can be cumbersome to navigate your open apps (if you are used to Bill's way). Those of us that have been running macs for a long time do not undersand this and have learned to adapt. Expose turns every other applications mangement concept on it's head. You can't understand it unless you experience it. This feature alone will increase your productivity plenty.
I hear that the next version of Windoze will include a technology simelar to Expose. I also have been informed that it is pattented by Apple, so get ready for another battle in the courts.
Also, networking is much improved in Panther. The OS now reports what interface you are connected to the internet with, which is a huge improvement.
There are tons of other features. I suggest reading the Apple site, checking the discussion groups and taking the dive into Panther ASAP

Panther upgrade success (and success with major problems)
So far I have upgraded two machines to Panther. My desktop G4 at work, which went very smoothly, and my G4 Powerbook, which did not go so smoothly.
Apperently I had some third party software that messed me up. Either that or somthing went wrong with the original upgrade. The upgrade went fine, but when I signed on for the first time the system froze. Then every other re-boot the system would kernal panic right after login. I could login as root with no problems, just not with my username. In desperation (in the middle of the night Monday/Tuesday) I re-upgraded my system and luckly everything is fine now. I have also upgraded my versions of Norton Internet Security and Norton System Works. Toast 6 is on order.
I suspect that the Aegis meeting house client was the offending third party application since it is incompatable with Panther and the problems seemed only to happen when connected to a network, also that was just about the only software/system difference between my desktop and laptop. While in class Monday evening I had no problems after several reboots and was disconnected from a network. When I got home and connected I immediatly started having problems and the system was unusable after several re-boots.
If you are running 802.1x I strongly recomend that you remove all traces of Aegis from your system prior to a Panther upgrade.
I still have several machines that need to be upgraded. One is out of disk space so that will take awhile. The other is our imac and it needs to be re-built due to being almost 5 years old and having tons of old stuff on it the we don't run anymore.

Panther server plans
The new server will be running on a b/w G3, will be RAID and will have more memory than my current beige G3. I estimate I will need to spend about 3-4 hours in planning , 1-2 on setting up hardware and moving stuff from one server to the other and around 2 hours to load software, and probbly countless hours learning all the new stuff and figuring out workarounds to strange things.

OS X 10.2.8 Server update
To make a long story short I am sticking with 10.2.6 on my server. A couple weeks ago I had a spare hour or two one evening and loaded a fresh copy of 10.2.x server on my G3 server. Right after I upgraded it to 10.2.8 (with no thrid party anything in the server or software other than Apples loaded) it started doing the same things as before. I'm pretty sure this is a memory or memory leak problem and is now a moot point since Panther server has been released. This weekend I will start the long process of moving to Panther server and migrate the existing data to new hardware. This upgrade will be less nerve racking becasue since I need to go to new hardware I can test the new stuff and make sure it works prior to going over the edge ;)
Strangly my server (of course it will read this and decide to die) has been even more stable now than before 10.2.8 trashed it. I assume this is becasue I did a full combo update from 10.2 right to 10.2.6.
